Manchester United are ‘still pushing’ to sign Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The 33-year-old striker, who has scored 103 goals throughout his club career, is set to see his current contract at the German club expire at the end of the season, though he is thought to be in talks over a new deal.

Having seen Cristiano Ronaldo leave Old Trafford back in November, the Red Devils have been linked with a move for the Bayern striker.

With the January transfer window open, an update has emerged regarding Choupo-Moting’s situation and United’s interest in him.

In a recent Twitter post, Sky Germany’s Plettenberg said: “News Choupo-Moting: First meeting about a new contract between Salihamidzic, Neppe, Choupo’s father & his agent today. Good talks but no fast decision. He doesn’t want to be the backup next season. Clubs like MUFC still pushing for a transfer in winter.”

In this quiz, we will take a look at who topped the club's scoring charts and when. First, who was United's top scorer this season?

Having joined Bayern back in October 2020 from Paris Saint-Germain, the striker has scored 29 goals in 74 appearances across all competitions.

This season has seen the veteran, who has been lauded for his “extraordinary” form by journalist Andy Brassell, score six goals and provide two assists in 10 Bundesliga appearances, which makes it easy to see why the Bavarians are keen to offer him a new contract.

In addition to that, stats from FBref show that the striker has the highest percentage of shots on target (64.3%) at the club, as well as the highest rate of goals per shot (0.43) and goals per shot on target (0.67).

This highlights how much of a clinical attacking figure he is and what he’d be able to offer Erik ten Hag’s side if he were to join them this month.

With only seven clubs in the Premier League having a lower rate of goals per shot than United (0.10) this season, securing the services of a player like Choupo-Moting would certainly make the Red Devils more clinical in front of goal if he can replicate his stats back in the Premier League.
