Manchester City have reportedly made an enquiry over a potential transfer move for FC Midtjylland defender Ousmane Diomande.

Back in the previous January transfer window, the 19-year-old joined his current side after leaving Ivory Coast club OS Abobo.

Since then, the defender went on to make 18 appearances for Midtjylland’s youth sides before being loaned out to Mafra in the Portuguese second division last summer.

During his time in Portugal this season, the teenager has made 16 appearances, chipping in with one goal and one assist, which has now led to Diomande finding himself on the radar of some big clubs in Europe.

In a recent report from the Daily Mail, the Manchester club have made an enquiry over potentially signing the defender, who has also caught the attention of fellow Premier League club Arsenal and Portuguese club Sporting CP.

The Citizens have found themselves signing younger players in recent transfer windows such as Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland and more recently, Maximo Perrone.

With that in mind, Diomande could well be the next young talent that the reigning Premier League champions look to add to their ranks.

The centre-back didn’t take long to make an impression in Portugal this season, as Ricardo Sousa had this to say about him and the reported interest from other clubs.

He said: “I see the interest of several clubs in the player as something perfectly natural. It has above-average quality and I think his quality will not stay here.

“He is a fast, very aggressive player, knows and likes to play and does it with his right or left foot. But you have to continue to evolve and be humble.”

Moving forward, if the City recruitment staff see Diomande as someone that can become an important figure for the club in the future, securing a deal for him could be a great long-term investment for them to make.
