Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino is reportedly looking to sign a new contract at the Merseyside club.

The Brazilian, who is set to see his current deal expire at the end of the season, has been linked with a move away from Anfield in recent weeks, particularly with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr looking at him.

However, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding Firmino’s current stance at Liverpool and what the future may hold for him.

According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, the 31-year-old is leaning towards signing a new two-year contract at Liverpool rather than leave the club as a free agent in the summer, despite interest from the Middle East.

How well do you know these Liverpool squad numbers? Starting off with an easy one: Mo Salah

During his time at the Merseyside club, Firmino has scored 107 goals, delivered 78 assists and won numerous trophies in 348 appearances across all competitions.

This season has seen the veteran show how much of a significant player he is for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

For example, in addition to scoring seven goals and supplying three assists in 13 league games, the Firmino has also racked up the fourth-highest number of key passes (17) at Liverpool as well as winning more tackles (11) than the likes of Jordan Henderson (8), Andy Robertson (8) and Harvey Elliott (7).

His overall performances in the league have earned the Brazilian a solid season rating of 7.2/10 from WhoScored, making him the second-highest-rated player at Liverpool behind Luis Diaz (7.28/10).

This says to us that he has done more than enough to warrant getting a new contract.

Bearing in mind how Klopp has recently reiterated his hopes at seeing the attacker continue his journey at Anfield, potentially seeing Firmino put pen to paper on a new deal would surely be a big positive for everyone connected to the club.

Despite currently being out injured, if the long-serving attacker can return to action as soon as possible and help his side have a strong second half of the season, this would also be a much-needed boost for the team, especially if he comes back having signed a new deal.
