The Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor says that transfer target Moises Caicedo would be a ‘perfect fit’ at Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp has reportedly asked for the Merseyside club to sign a central midfielder, and are monitoring Caicedo’s situation at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Chelsea are also reportedly exploring his potential signing, but Brighton would expect over £75m to consider selling him in January.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Taylor says that Caicedo is the ‘perfect fit’ for Liverpool, and has ‘a lot of similarities’ with former Reds star Gini Wijnaldum:

“The other midfielder (Liverpool are looking at) would be Moises Caicedo, who is the perfect fit really.

“I see a lot of similarities between him and Georginio Wijnaldum. Although Caicedo is much younger and fresher. Still a little bit raw, but still a top player.”

TIF thoughts on Caicedo to Liverpool…

Wijnaldum was a class act at Anfield, winning both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, and if Caicedo is as successful as he was, then he would be another shrewd signing by Klopp’s side.

In fact, as per FBRef, Caicedo (87.5%) and Wijnaldum (90%) both average over 85% passing completion rates per 90 minutes, while the former outshines the latter defensively, averaging a tackle completion rate against dribblers over 70%.

Caicedo is also 11 years younger than Wijnaldum at just 21, and so would be a mainstay in Liverpool’s midfield for years to come.

Nonetheless, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita are all out of contract in the summer, so the Reds need to invest in the middle of the park, and Caicedo could be an option for them in January if they are able to meet Brighton’s asking price.
