Liverpool are one of the clubs with an eye on Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Kone joined Monchengladbach back in the 2021 January transfer window before being immediately loaned back to previous club Toulouse for the remainder of the season.

Since then, the 21-year-old has made 44 appearances for the German side across all competitions, scoring four goals and delivering two assists along the way.

Despite not having his current contract run out until 2025, Kone has found himself on the radar of some big clubs across Europe.

In a recent Twitter post, Romano had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Many top clubs are following French big talent Manu Kone. Been told summer move is most likely plan for player, agents and ‘Gladbach. FC Bayern, Newcastle, PSG and also Liverpool (Bellingham remains their n1 priority) are well informed on Kone’s situation.”

How well do you know these Liverpool squad numbers? Starting off with an easy one: Mo Salah

With 14 Bundesliga appearances under his belt this season, the Frenchman, who was praised as a ‘one-man army’ has made more progressive passes (58) than any other player at the club, as well as having the highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (40).

This highlights the sort of productive midfielder that the youngster is and why the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Bayern have their eyes on him.

Indeed, top-four rivals Newcastle have had scouts watch the midfielder and written up some ‘glowing reports‘.

With Romano mentioning that Jude Bellingham is the Merseyside club’s main transfer priority for the summer, Kone could be a suitable alternative for the Englishman should the Reds be unable to land his signature.

Similarly to Kone, Bellingham has more progressive passes (86) than anyone at Dortmund for this current league campaign as well as the highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (69).

Moving forward, if the Reds are unsuccessful in their attempts to secure a transfer deal for Bellingham, going after Kone could be the next best move for the club given how similar the pair are in terms of what they offer on and off the ball.
