TalkSport pundit Simon Jordan has torn into Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers for his comments about the club fighting relegation.

Speaking after the defeat to Nottingham Forest, Rodgers said that the Foxes’ injury problems have made it difficult, saying, “with what we’ve got, it’s a real challenge”.

Forest won 2-0 at The City Ground thanks to a brace from Brennan Johnson, and the defeat leaves Leicester 15th in the table, only two points above the drop zone.

The Foxes have conceded 33 times in the Premier League this season, which means they have the fourth-worst defence in the league. Forest, Southampton and Bournemouth are the only other teams in the division who have a worse tally.

Speaking live on TalkSport, Jordan lambasted Rodgers’ comments and criticised his current managerial performance at Leicester, claiming that he was agreeing with the media to simply take the argument away from them.

He stated: “What in God’s name, Brendan Rodgers, are you doing? A decent enough squad that you’ve got there. Irrespective of injuries or not, looking at that XI that played the other day against Nottingham Forest, there’s enough Premier League experience in that team to overcome Nottingham Forest. It’s not good enough.

“I know I advocated for him being an England manager in the discussion after the Southgate situation, and Brendan Rodgers in his pomp is a good shout for that. Brendan Rodgers is not in his pomp.

“I’m tired of the diplomacy, I’m tired of the excuses and I’m tired of the background noise agreeing with the media to take the argument away. The best way to negate an argument is to agree with it.”

TIF Thoughts on Jordan’s comments…

We believe that the comments made by Jordan are coming from a person who clearly rates Rodgers as a manager; Jordan is clearly frustrated with where Leicester are because he knows the Foxes boss is capable of doing better.

This is a manager who won the FA Cup and Community Shield with the Foxes, as well as two Scottish League titles with Celtic. The Northern Irishman also narrowly missed out on winning a Premier League title with Liverpool in the 2013/14 season by two points and taking his current side into the Champions League.

Reputation is one thing, but in the here and now, Leicester are simply not performing to the level they should be, even with their injury woes.

Six Foxes players are currently sidelined with injuries, including James Maddison, but their squad is still filled with Premier League quality players including Youri Tielemans, Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy.

Therefore, we feel there are only so many excuses Rodgers can make, and if he was to lose his job, he could have few complaints.
