Fabrizio Romano has shared some behind-the-scenes details regarding Leeds United’s potential transfer swoop for reported target Azzedine Ounahi.

The West Yorkshire club have among several clubs been linked with a move for the Angers midfielder recently.

With the Whites recently breaking their club record transfer fee to sign Georginio Rutter from Hoffenheim, some details have emerged regarding the situation surrounding Ounahi.

In a recent Twitter post, Romano had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Azzedine Ounahi deal. Leeds have to decide how to proceed with signings after spending big money on Rutter, deal not dead but other clubs also moving.

“Next week expected to be key — as Napoli have offered €15m to Angers one week ago.”

Leeds United fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with an easy one: Alan Smith

At the age of 22, the Moroccan has made 48 appearances for Angers across all competitions, scoring two goals and delivering two assists along the way.

With 15 appearances under his belt in Ligue 1 this season, Ounahi has featured in a variety of different midfield positions, highlighting his versatility and usefulness.

Across those appearances, the midfielder has shown how much of a capable figure he is in possession and moving the ball around the pitch.

Do Leeds need to sign another player this month?

Specifically, in addition to having the fourth-best passing accuracy at Angers (88.3%), Ounahi has also completed more passes into the 18-yard box (12) than any other player at the club.

As well as that, he has also made more successful dribbles (39) than any of his teammates, further highlighting the talent he has on the ball.

Moving forward, if the financial aspects of a potential deal for the Angers star don’t end up being a problem for Leeds, we feel this is definitely a deal that Victor Orta should look to complete before the end of the month to add that extra bit of quality to Jesse Marsch’s squad.

Another midfielder would also give Marsch a replacement for Mateusz Klich, who brought an end to his time at Elland Road earlier this month.
