Phil Hay has said that Leeds United’s interest in Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi is ‘active’ and thinks that a move would change the complexion inside Elland Road.

The Whites officially wrapped up the club-record signing of striker Georginio Rutter on Saturday evening, with the Frenchman penning an Elland Road contract through to 2028.

Victor Orta and co may not stop there, though, with plenty of speculation emerging over a possible move for Ounahi. Reports have claimed that Leeds have offered the player a salary worth €2.5m (£2.21m) per year in Yorkshire, and Hay has name-checked the Morocco international in a recent Twitter post and article for The Athletic.

Hay said after a move for Rutter was announced that the club’s interest in Ounahi is ‘active’. The reliable reporter added that it will be ‘interesting’ to see if Leeds move for the midfielder, claiming that it ‘would change the complexion of the dressing room significantly’.

TIF thoughts on Hay’s claim…

Leeds seem rather light in midfield after Mateusz Klich left for DC United earlier this month, with Tyler Adams, Marc Roca and Adam Forshaw the only senior options available to Jesse Marsch as a holding or central midfielder.

Therefore, you can see why Hay thinks that a potential move for Ounahi is interesting, with the 22-year-old able to line out as a holding, central or attacking midfielder.

He has also just come off the back of an impressive World Cup, with his Transfermarkt valuation rising accordingly, so hopefully he’ll be the third arrival at Elland Road this month, giving everyone at the club a welcome boost heading into the second half of the season.
