Journalist Tony Scott believes that Everton will be relegated if they scrape the barrel for signings this month.

Frank Lampard was appointed Everton manager just under 12 months ago, and despite keeping them up last season, he’s failed to progress them as they’re engulfed in another battle against the drop.

Everton find themselves inside the bottom three, which could see them try to rectify their situation in the transfer market, but as things stand, the Toffees are yet to bring in a single new player.

This is likely to be down to their worrying financial situation, which has seen them hamstrung in recent transfer markets having spent heavily over the years under Farhad Moshiri.

Scott has urged Everton on the All Together Now podcast against scraping the barrel for signings this month as it will only result in relegation.

He said: “We need help, we need help in the window. Frank Lampard needs help, he’s gone on the record saying he needs help. We cannot skimp and scrape around loans and frees, because if we do, we’re going to go down.”

While loan deals can indeed work out for some clubs in the short and long term, Everton must ensure they can get more successful deals such as the one for Conor Coady rather than the likes of Ruben Vinagre – who’s yet to even start a league game for the Toffees.

It’s obvious that Everton don’t have a lot of money to sign players, but that doesn’t mean they can’t get deals done, as they can strike up agreements with clubs that would see them pay more in instalments instead of lump sums upfront.

However, that could end up being difficult to do in the long term if they fail to avoid the drop this season. But if they get the right players in and Lampard turns things around, they will have solid foundations to build upon heading into next season.
