Everton currently find themselves in a difficult but familiar position in the Premier League table as they look to once again avoid being relegated.

With 19 games played, the Toffees have only won three of them, leaving them in the relegation zone with fewer victories than any other side in the division.

Despite this disappointing first half of the season, one figure in Frank Lampard’s squad that we feel has been a shining light for Everton on the pitch is Alex Iwobi.

As one of the three players to start all of Everton’s league games this season, the midfielder provided more assists (5) than any other player at the club.

He’s also made more key passes (30) than any of his teammates and has the joint-highest number of successful dribbles to his name (14).

Do you remember who Alex Iwobi was signed from?

Despite this, Everton still find themselves fighting to avoid the drop, which we feel needs to force the club into strengthening their squad before the January transfer window closes.

One figure the Toffees have been linked with that we feel would not only give them a good chance of crawling out of the relegation zone but also give Lampard the chance to form a dynamic duo with Iwobi is Chuba Akpom.

Has Alex Iwobi been Everton's best player this season?

This season has seen the Middlesbrough striker score 13 goals in 20 Championship goals, which highlights how capable he is of finding the back of the net and why he’d be able to do the same at Everton if he’s able to get on the end of Iwobi’s key passes.

Having spent time together at Arsenal, Akpom, who now has 99 club goals to his name throughout his career, had this to say about the current Toffees star.

He said: “You need to know football to understand how good he is. Technically he’s unbelievable, his understanding of the game is unbelievable – one of the best I’ve seen anyway. I feel like you need to understand football to know this. He’s a perfect Arsenal player.”

This shows the admiration Akpom has for Iwobi and further highlights the connection they could have on the pitch if Everton were to seal a deal for him this month.
