Sky Sports contributor Ben Dinnery has claimed that Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be ‘fit and available’ for their clash with Southampton.

It’s been a disappointing season for the English forward who has a history riddled with injuries, as he was forced off against Leicester City back in November.

The striker has featured recently for the Toffees, twice in the Premier League against Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion and once in the FA Cup against Manchester United.

His best season in the Everton blue came in the 2020/21 season where he bagged 16 league goals, however this season has been difficult for Calvert-Lewin due to injury and he’s only scored one Premier League goal.

Speaking on the YouTube channel Premier FPL Injuries, Dinnery said there have been ‘no setbacks’ for the player and that he is ‘absolutely fine’.

He stated (13:35), “Dominic Calvert Lewin came through that three-game week unscathed. Frank Lampard did say that the striker still needs to be managed. But the good news is no setbacks come through that absolutely fine, so he is fit and available.”

TIF’s view on Dinnery’s comments…

With only Neal Maupay as their other main option in the striker position, Calvert-Lewin’s progression is great to see from an Everton perspective.

We know that the player can get goals in the Premier League and that’s been a real issue for the Toffees in the 2022/23 campaign, who have only 14 league goals this season only Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest has a lower tally.

A possible problem for Frank Lampard’s side has been the fact that Calvert-Lewin has missed so much of the season. Had he played more than eight Premier League matches Everton may less of an issue as far as finding the back of the net is concerned.

Their opponents Southampton are also in and amongst the battle for relegation they are at the bottom of the table currently, so the striker may be feeling confident that he can add to his goal tally this season.
