Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Chelsea now have a concrete interest in Moises Caicedo.

After spending very heavily over the summer on players such as Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella, many may well have thought that Todd Boehly would tighten the purse strings and have an eye on Financial Fair Play this month.

However, it’s been the complete opposite, with the American owner splashing out wildly on Benoit Badiashile, and most recently, Mykhailo Mudryk, which has cost the Blues well over £100m in just one transfer window.

Despite all this spending, Chelsea, Boehly and Graham Potter seemingly aren’t content with their squad and are now looking to keep this going by throwing more money at their problems – and purchasing a new midfielder in the form of Caicedo is said to be high on the list.

Romano has confirmed on his YouTube channel that Caicedo is appreciated by Chelsea, which could be down to Potter having worked with the midfielder in the past.

He said: “I wanted to touch also on Chelsea because I’ve mentioned to you many times – two weeks ago, also in the last video I did – Moises Caicedo. Chelsea’s interest in Moises Caicedo is really concrete, they really like the player, Graham Potter knows him very well.

Should Chelsea sign Caicedo?

“So let’s [remember] that Chelsea are really interested in this boy. Of course, they just signed Mykhailo Mudryk, so let’s see how now they will decide how to act on the market, how much they want to bid for other players they’re interested in after spending big money on Mudryk, but Mosies Caicedo is a player they really appreciate.”

TIF Thoughts on interest in Caicedo…

It has been reported that Brighton had a price tag of £85m on the midfielder, so it could take another huge bid.

Caicedo has burst onto the scene in recent times having only made his debut for Brighton back in April 2022 and has now slotted into the void left by Yves Bissouma seamlessly, which has helped the Seagulls to be fighting for a place in Europe this season.

Even with a hefty price tag on his head, the injuries Chelsea currently have could see them forced into paying whatever Brighton are asking for, especially if Potter is keen on landing the midfielder who’s been labelled ‘immaculate‘ for the one-two play he’s capable of.
