Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford ‘would fit the bill’ at Aston Villa, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Villa were linked with a move for the 28-year-old shortly before the New Year, with the club looking at potential targets in case Emiliano Martinez were to leave the Midlands.
It was reported that Villa are keeping an eye on Pickford’s situation at Goodison Park, especially as he is yet to pen new terms on Merseyside. The England number one is also thought to be of interest to Chelsea, but O’Rourke has had his say on the speculation of a move to Villa Park.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, the journalist feels Pickford ‘would fit the bill’ under Unai Emery and described a potential move for the Everton ‘keeper as ‘a real ambitious signing from Aston Villa’.
O’Rourke said of the 28-year-old: “He’s good with the ball at his feet, and that’s the way Unai Emery wants his goalkeepers to be able to play. So he would fit the bill.
“It’d be a real ambitious signing from Aston Villa if they were able to get him because I’m sure there’ll be a number of clubs in for Jordan Pickford if he does end up leaving Everton.”
TIF thoughts on possible Pickford move…
There has been no major speculation when it comes to Martinez potentially leaving Villa this month, so you’d expect that a move for Pickford in January is unlikely.
However, should Villa receive big-money proposals for the Argentine in the summer and proceed to sell the World Cup winner on, then the Englishman could be a shrewd target in the Midlands, especially as the Toffees goalkeeper has a very similar WhoScored record over the past 18 months to Martinez.
Pickford also has plenty of experience at the highest level and could well be open to leaving Everton following their struggles in recent campaigns, so it could be one to monitor for Villa fans as the year goes on.
