Arsenal have reportedly made contact with the agent of Lazio midfielder and reported transfer target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The midfielder joined Lazio back in the 2015 summer transfer window from KRC Genk and has gone on to make 313 appearances for the Italian club across all competitions, scoring 63 goals and delivering 58 assists along the way.

Once the current season ends, the Serbian will be set to enter the final year of his contract at Lazio, although some behind-the-scenes moves have been made that could result in seeing the midfielder depart from the club in the coming months.

According to a recent report from Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Arsenal and an unnamed Premier League side have contacted Mateja Kezman, who is the agent of Milinkovic-Savic, over a potential transfer move.

The report also adds that a potential deal for the midfielder is likelier to take place during the next summer transfer window rather than this month. However, it states they’re currently ‘at the front of the queue’.

This season has seen the Serbia international show how much of an impressive midfielder he is and what he’d be able to offer the Gunners.

For example, in addition to scoring three goals and delivering seven assists in 16 Serie A appearances, Milinkovic-Savic has also made more progressive passes (60) than any other player at the club.

Described by his father as a “dominant” player that has an “explosive combination of extraordinary technique and physicality”, the Lazio star has also shown how much of a useful defensive figure he can be by having the highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (42) at the Italian side.

Despite having an apparent price tag of £105m put on him by Lazio president Claudio Lotito, if Arsenal were to make an approach to sign the midfielder in the summer, the financial aspect could well be different with him being in the final year of his contract.

With all of that in mind, if Milinkovic-Savic continues to impress this season, Arsenal should definitely put themselves at the front of the queue to land a potential transfer deal for him in the summer.
