Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale received praise from sections of the media for his performance in his team’s victory at Tottenham Hotspur this evening.
The Gunners took a massive step in the Premier League title race at the home of their arch-rivals, cruising to a 2-0 win courtesy of a first-half Hugo Lloris own-goal and a brilliant Martin Odegaard strike.
The result sends Mikel Arteta’s side eight points clear at the top of the table, but in truth it could’ve been more.
Thomas Partey struck the post with a fantastic effort from outside the penalty box in the first half, while Eddie Nketiah had a ‘massive chance‘ to make it 3-0 with just over 20 minutes remaining.
Tottenham did manage to threaten at times, although Ramsdale denied them on every occasion, leading to widespread acclaim from the media for his performance.
Journalist Ahmed Yussuf lauded the shot-stopper as ‘incredible’, while Terry Flewers praised a ‘massive save’ in the second half, and Mark Mann-Bryans claimed that the 24-year-old was having a ‘stormer’.
TIF thoughts on Ramsdale’s performance against Tottenham…
The Englishman was at his usual best between the sticks today, ranked by SofaScore as the best player on the pitch with a match rating of 8.8, largely due to the fact that he made seven saves, six of which came from shots inside the penalty box.
By completing four accurate long balls, the 24-year-old also exhibited the talent that he has with the ball at his feet, regularly managing to pick out his team-mates high up the pitch.
Ramsdale proved that he was up to the task in a tough game with a solid all-round display, and Arteta will be hoping for a similar performance in another tough fixture against a bang in-form Manchester United next Sunday.
