TalkSport man Alex Crook is confident that Arsenal will secure the signature of Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhailo Mudryk.
Fabrizio Romano reported that there were recent ‘discussions’ held between Mikel Arteta’s side and Shakhtar, while he also ruled out Chelsea’s interest following the signing of Joao Felix.
It’s no wonder Mudryk has attracted Premier League interest, as he’s had an outstanding season with the Ukrainian side so far. In 12 league appearances, the 22-year-old has 13 goal contributions – an impressive return for such a young talent.
Speaking to TalkSport, Crook stated that a deal for the winger ‘will happen’ and that Arteta is ‘keen’ on the player.
He stated: “I think that will happen. I think negotiations are still going on – I know Chelsea’s name keeps being bandied around, but he wants to join Arsenal; Mikel Arteta very keen to sign him. I think the two clubs are getting close.”
TIF Thoughts on Mudryk to Arsenal…
The Gunners are enduring an exceptional Premier League campaign this season, sitting at the summit of the table. A big factor in their success has been their ability to score for fun, netting 40 league goals this season – only Manchester City have a higher tally.
Should Arsenal be able to sign Mudryk, he would provide a boost to their wide options. Both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have been impressive, but should they suffer injury issues, the Ukrainian can fill in for them without compromising on quality – provided that he can replicate his Shakhtar form at the Emirates Stadium.
Additionally, the existing Gunners duo are young but have adapted quickly to the Premier League, so they could help the 22-year-old do the same by offering their insight and wisdom should he make the move to north London.
