Tottenham Hotspur will leap at the opportunity to bring in an upgrade at centre-back over the January transfer window if the opportunity arises.
This has been suggested by the reliable Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold who has been discussing the latest transfer talk coming out of Hotspur Way on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast.
Having got their Premier League campaign back underway on the weekend, Antonio Conte said after the game that he does not feel Spurs need to improve at centre-back:
“Then at central defender I think we are good. We have to continue to work, to work. Cuti Romero comes back tomorrow in the training session,” the Italian said.
Spurs conceded twice before scoring on Boxing Day against Brentford as they found themselves in a similar position of having to fight their way back from a deficit.
But despite Conte’s comments of not needing more centre-backs, Gold believes that wasn’t completely true and Spurs would be open if the right opportunity emerges:
(48:00) “But from everything I understand that within Spurs if they were to find or get a centre-back, that would be an upgrade and what he has right now, they would leap at it and so would Conte.”
