Tottenham Hotspur are going into the January transfer window looking for a new defender as well as another forward.
This has been suggested by the reliable Spurs reporter Alasdair Gold who has been speaking ahead of the upcoming winter market on his YouTube channel.
Spurs acted efficiently in the previous January window which saw Fabio Paratici only bring in two additions but they were two players who brought real improvement to Antonio Conte’s starting XI.
Conte’s men now return to Premier League action on Boxing Day with a trip to Brentford which will be their only game before the January window opens for business.
And it seems as if the Italian has already got his mind made up on what areas he would like to see improved over the winter window as his own contract situation continues to bubble away in the background:
(2:40) “I get the impression he [Conte] does want someone at the back and someone kind of in an attacking creative role. My impression was that there was more to do with a midfielder that can either play centrally and deeper or can also play as part of that front three utilises as well.”

We are intrigued to see what type of defender Conte is looking to bring in given their clear interest to bring in a big-name centre-back like Alessandro Bastoni last summer.

But the Italian continues to speak about his happiness playing at the San Siro which would naturally cast doubt over Paratici’s ability to bring the 23-year-old to north London.
So it does beg the question of what calibre of defender Spurs could bring in over the January window, however, it is apparent they need to improve in that area.
Before the World Cup break, Spurs’ defence came under serious fire with their last eight games across all competitions seeing them fail to keep a single clean sheet.
