Newcastle United have definitely looked at the Argentine star Enzo Fernandez ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

This has been suggested by the insider Graeme Bailey who has been speaking on the Loaded Mag YouTube channel when discussing the latest transfer news on Tyneside.

Fernandez, who has been hailed as a ‘beast’, is now a player who has caught the attention of a lot of Europe’s biggest clubs following his high profile performances in the World Cup that earned him the Young Player of the Tournament award in Qatar.

Which of these United States stars has been linked with the Toon recently?

However, there is the belief that Benfica are not open to offers for the midfielder in January and any club that do hold a serious interest in the 21-year-old will have to pay his €120m (£106m) release clause.

Although Bailey has said the chances of Newcastle paying the £106m are very slim, the Argentine is a player who the Toon have looked at:

(1:26:50) “So I think Chelsea are leading this but clearly, a player Newcastle have looked at. But as I said, yeah, unless everything Newcastle say to us journalists is a lie you won’t be paying £105m for any player in one lump sum because it’s really hard on your accounts sheets/FFP.”

TIF Thoughts on Bailey’s comments…

We have to agree with Bailey in the thinking that Newcastle will not be spending that type of money on one single player – especially in January.

Would you like a big name like Fernandez at Newcastle?

However, it will provide some fans with encouragement about where the club are heading potentially over the next couple of years by just being linked to players like Fernandez.

Just one year ago, the Toon found themselves battling with the Premier League’s relegation scrap.

And now, they are having their name linked to one of the world’s most exciting talent in Fernandez who shone for Argentina in Qatar with a return of a goal and assist in the World Cup (via Transermarkt).

Although Newcastle have made some big signings under PIF, breaking the £100m mark could catapult them into the next level as they would likely have to smash their wage structure for a player worth such much.
