Newcastle United have their eyes on the possibility of landing the World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi in the January window among a host of other clubs.

And journalist Dean Jones believes the Moroccan midfielder will be the topic of discussion across a number of boardrooms with the winter market now just a matter of days away.

There have been reports linking the Toon with a potential swoop for the 22-year-old who shone during Morocco’s stint in the World Cup which saw them reach the semi-finals.

However, they are not the only Premier League club said to be interested in the midfielder with Southampton, West Ham and Wolves all said to have him on their radar.

Which of these United States stars has been linked with the Toon recently?

And Jones fully expects plenty of clubs to be discussing his name in their meetings leading up to the January window:

“He’s one of the players who have really raised his standing in the game and it’ll be pretty cheap to get him out of Angers.

“At this moment in time, it’s not on the cards for him to join Spurs. At a time when cheap players of a good level are really hard to find, I’m sure he is somebody who is being talked about in a few boardrooms.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

It will be an intriguing January window coming up for the Magpies who will likely be looking to bolster their squad given the opportunity at hand following their tremendous start to the campaign.

And it was made apparent during the World Cup that Ounahi is a player who could be destined for better things than playing for the Ligue 1 side Angers having played in every game of their efforts in Qatar.

The 22-year-old caught the eye and was hailed as “outstanding” as he struck up a partnership alongside Sofyan Amrabat.

Given the injury issues to the likes of Bruno Guimaraes already this season, perhaps a signing like Ounahi could be something that could boost Eddie Howe’s squad.
