Manchester United could be beaten by another Premier League side to yet another transfer target in the coming months.

This has been suggested by insider Dean Jones who has been speaking about United’s interest in goalkeeper Diogo Costa who is also attracting interest from elsewhere in England.

There is currently a lot of speculation surrounding the future of the current United goalkeeper, David de Gea, with the Spaniard’s contract running into its final weeks.

In this quiz, we will take a look at who topped the club's scoring charts and when. First, who was United's top scorer this season?

Which has led to reports suggesting the Red Devils have earmarked Costa as a potential long-term replacement for De Gea who has now spent the last 11 years at Old Trafford.

However, Jones now believes Erik ten Hag’s side will face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea with Graham Potter’s side actually ahead in the race for the 23-year-old:

(50:45) “Chelsea are on his tail too. I’d say they’re probably further ahead in this actually than Man United right now from what I hear.

“Chelsea have got a decision to make over what they’re doing with their keepers, most likely to move on from [Edouard] Mendy at this stage. It’s still a possibility they move on from both [Kepa Arrizabalaga] to be totally honest and go with Diogo Costa.

“Diogo Costa would not be moving to be a backup to anybody he’s an extremely good goalkeeper.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

This would be yet another big blow for the Red Devils who have already seen Liverpool beat them to the signing of the Dutch forward, Cody Gakpo.

Would Costa be a good De Gea replacement?

De Gea has been a sensational player for United over the years and losing him would inevitably be a big loss for the club. So replacing him with an up-and-coming player like Costa would be a great move.

However, losing out on another top player to a Premier League rival would likely only increase the frustration among the fans who once again voiced their anger earlier this week.
