Leeds United have been warned that losing their starting goalkeeper Illan Meslier will become reality in the not-so-distant future.

This has been suggested by the presenter Conor McGilligan who has been speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel account on YouTube ahead of the Premier League restart.

There have been reports that the French shot-stopper is being eyed by the likes of Manchester United amid their search to find their next long-term option between the sticks.

Meslier has spent the World Cup break at Thorp Arch having not been included in Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad for the trip to Qatar.

However, it is apparent McGilligan has his concerns over how long Meslier will remain a Leeds player amid the reports of clubs showing an interest in the youngster:

(15:00) “That is going to happen. That is naturally going to happen. Unfortunately, he’s 21/22 years of age he’s going to leave Leeds. There’s a lot of talk about him being the succession plan to Hugo Lloris that would make sense as well.”

TIF Thoughts on McGilligan’s comments…

This would feel like a real blow for Leeds if they were to lose the 21-year-old who is clearly showing a lot of potential given the likes of Manchester United are showing an interest in him.

Finding a reliable goalkeeper is one of the hardest positions to cater for and they certainly seem to have found that in Meslier who has now made 103 appearances for the Whites.

And with the struggles Leeds have had over the last season and a half, losing such a key member of their side like Meslier could be a massive loss.
