Journalist Dean Jones has suggested that Aston Villa are trailing in the race to sign Marcus Thuram.
The Frenchman is at the centre of a transfer scramble but it appears that Villa aren’t among the frontrunners for his signature.
According to L’Equipe via Sport Witness, new Villa boss Unai Emery was interested in signing the 25-year-old during his tenure at Villarreal and has maintained that desire since his appointment at Bodymoor Heath.
However, the same source claims that Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund as well as Inter Milan and a leading Premier League side are also keen on the centre-forward.
His current deal at Borussia Monchengladbach is up at the end of the season but Jones doesn’t foresee a move to the west Midlands.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “You’ve got to consider that Aston Villa might be a little way down the list. We’ll have to wait and see what level of clubs are genuinely going to be in for Thuram.”
TIF Thoughts on Thuram and Aston Villa…
Will Aston Villa make a big signing this January?
Yes
No
The 25-year-old powerhouse has already netted 13 times for Gladbach this season and it’s no wonder he has a long list of suitors targeting his services.
German outlet BILD have reported that the French frontman will be available for just €10m (£8.5m) which would be a snip for the ‘phenomenal’ – as described by former teammate Denis Zakaria – frontman.
However, with some of Europe’s heavy hitters and even the likes of Newcastle United believed to be circling, we don’t see Emery being able to get his man this winter.
