Joshua Barrie, sometimes seen on Sky Sports, has said that Rangers’ Ianis Hagi is still doing individual training despite being ‘on track’ in his recovery.
The 24-year-old has been out of action since January after suffering a serious knee injury against Stirling Albion in the Scottish Cup.
He has previously told Rangers TV that his road to recovery has been a ‘rollercoaster’ both physically and mentally but insists that he is close to his ‘final destination’.
The Gers’ season resumes in less than two weeks when they welcome Hibernian to Ibrox but whether the £21k-per-week ace will feature before the turn of the year remains unknown.
Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel when asked was Hagi at the training day that Barrie attended he said:
(19:12) “He wasn’t in the team training but I know he is back on the pitch. Last time I spoke to a couple of people about that they told me he was on track.
“Obviously it’s an ACL, it’s not a small injury so I think there’s getting up to speed then there’s probably almost learning how to run again.”
TIF Thoughts on Hagi and Rangers…
Will Michael Beale succeed at Rangers?
Yes!
No!
Michael Beale will be hoping to call upon one of the players who impressed during his last stint in Glasgow sooner rather than later.
Steven Gerrard, whom Beale coached under previously at the Bears, described the Romanian ace as ‘an absolute dream to work with’ after his performances in the club’s 55th-title-winning season.
Hagi was involved in an impressive 34 goals under Gerrard over the course of 74 appearances in all competitions (via Transfermarkt).
He is the type of figure that could potentially revitalise the Light Blues’ campaign but it will be interesting to see just when he returns to action.
