One of Michael Beale’s first priorities at Rangers will be tying Ryan Kent down to a new contract, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Kent has become one of Rangers’ most important players since his initial arrival on loan in 2018 from Liverpool, and he’s gone on to make 196 appearances, registering 31 goals and 53 assists.

The SPFL winner will enter the final six months of his deal in a matter of weeks, with the Gers desperate not to miss out on a fee for the star who cost them £7.5m in 2019 after that successful loan spell.

And speaking to This Is Futbol, O’Rourke believes his future is something Beale needs to act upon quickly.

He said: “I’m sure it will be a priority for Michael Beale. One of the first things in his in-tray at Rangers is to maybe see if he can convince the likes of Ryan Kent to sign a new deal.

“The last thing Rangers want is for Ryan Kent to run down his contract and leave for nothing. That would be a very valuable asset leaving for free and Rangers wouldn’t want that to happen.”

TIF Thoughts on Kent’s situation…

We feel Rangers must do everything to keep hold of Kent and stop him leaving on a free transfer. He remains the Gers’ most expensive signing since 2004, and comfortably so since their return to the top flight.

But in the event that the 26-year-old is open to a potential move back to the Premier League, they should look to convince him to sign a deal with a release clause to make sure they recoup funds to bring in a replacement capable of replicating the Englishman’s success.
