Journalist Pete O’Rourke has suggested that Rangers could take advantage of Nicolas Raskin’s precarious contract situation.
Reports out of Belgium surfaced in the summer linking the Gers with a move for the 21-year-old and now according to Voetbal Nieuws via Daily Record they have returned their attention to the Standard Liege midfielder.
Labelled a ‘pitbull’ around the midfield third by journalist Bob Faesen, Raskin is out of contract at the end of the season.
The Belgium U21 international is seemingly having an ongoing dispute with his employers over fresh terms and O’Roruke feels the Bears may profit.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “He’s a good midfielder Raskin. I think he’s having a bit of a contract wrangle at the minute with Standard Liege, so that’s maybe opening the door for Rangers to steal in and lure him away from the club.”
TIF Thoughts on Raskin and Rangers…
Will Michael Beale succeed at Rangers?
Yes!
No!
Despite his tender age, the workhorse already has 97 appearances under his belt in his home country while this season he ranks fifth among his teammates for average match rating (7.01) according to SofaScore.
He is a key cog in the Standard Liege machine ranking first for tackles (3.3) and second in the side for accurate passes (39.7) per 90 minutes.
With an ageing midfield, the £6.9k-per-week gem could form part of a refresh in that department for Michael Beale but it will be interesting to see how he interprets the situation having only just filled the vacant hot seat.
