Tactical analyst Adam Thornton has said that Rangers should explore the possibility of selling Scott Wright in the summer.

The Gers signed Wright from Aberdeen on a pre-contract deal. Since joining, the winger has made 70 appearances for the Ibrox giants in all competitions, including their Europa League final clash against Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, the 25-year-old is yet to earn a start under Michael Beale and was an unused substitute at Ross County on Friday night.

Speaking on The Rangers Review prior to the victory at Dingwall, Thornton claimed that Rangers could get a ‘decent’ fee for the winger and could be something they look into at the end of the season.

He stated: “It’ll be interesting to see how much money we could get for someone like that. We just think automatically of £500k or whatever,  but that can be one in the summer.

“Could we actually get a decent bit of cash there because we could bump him up a wee bit more and try and get him out and get someone else in, and sort of try and start that cycle again?

“[His] end-product is a big thing for him… I don’t think he’s a player that is going to go on and nail down a first-team slot anytime soon.”

TIF Thoughts on Thornton’s comments about Scott Wright…

We believe that Wright should get until the end of the season before an outcome on his future is decided, but if the price is right, Rangers should consider selling him to an interested club if he fails to deliver.

His numbers for the Scottish side haven’t been incredibly impressive, as he’s picked up just 14 goal contributions in 70 matches across all competitions – albeit less than half of those have been starts.

However, Beale may feel that he can get the best out of the winger. He’s not yet been in charge for a month so he may believe he can develop him into a clinical player. You do have to bear in mind that Wright is still only 25, so he’s still got plenty of years left in his career.

If Beale isn’t impressed by the winger by the end of the campaign, they may well get a fairly decent fee for the player. He’s featured in multiple competitions including the Champions League, Europa League, Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup, so would surely be an asset to many sides.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise if multiple clubs were knocking on Rangers’ door for his signature at the end of the season if Wright is made available.
