New Rangers manager Michael Beale has said that he will have the opportunity to sign players where he sees fit this winter.

Beale was announced as the new Ibrox boss on Monday evening following the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

He is inheriting a squad that finds itself nine points off the top of the Scottish Premiership table and riddled with injuries to some key names.

Furthermore, with a raft of players out of contract in the summer including Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, a refresh is needed at the Bears.

But Beale has now claimed that he will be backed in the winter window.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “What I’ve asked is, let me look at the squad first.

“Let me see who’s here, let me see who’s present, let me see who’s here every day driving it.

“Let me have a look in their eyes and then we’ll assess from there, but I’ve been made aware that there’s definitely an opportunity for the right players in the right positions if I feel that, but first, let me not assume anything – let me get in and work with the group.”

TIF Thoughts on Beale and Rangers…

Will Rangers be active in January?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

With Allan McGregor at 40 and Jon McLaughlin not able to hold down the No 1 spot for the Gers, the goalkeeping position is certainly an area to address – but perhaps not until the end of the season.

More immediately, we feel the former QPR head coach could be looking at investing in the midfield, with Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield and Steven Davis all coming to the end of their deals.

The Glasgow giants have been credited with an interest in Nicolas Raskin at Standard Liege, who could perhaps add a renewed verve and vigour to the engine room.

Elsewhere, Beale is well-stocked at centre-back, however, considering Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and John Souttar are all on the sidelines and Ben Davies’ recent troubles, perhaps another addition in that department is needed.

It will definitely be interesting to see how the new manager interprets the situation come the January window.
