Pundit Frank McAvennie has given his verdict on Alfredo Morelos’ future with Rangers.

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie described the situation surrounding Morelos as ‘a shame’. In his words, the Rangers fans have ‘loved him’ and will be sad to see his time at Ibrox end with a whimper.

The forward has played 245 times for the Scottish side since joining the club back in 2017 from HJK Helsinki, but Morelos’ contract with Rangers runs out at the end of this season and could join a new club for absolutely nothing come the summer if he is unable to sign a new deal.

The Daily Record claims that manager Michael Beale rates the player highly, but they’ve yet to sort out a new deal as of yet.

McAvennie stated: “It is a shame because the Rangers supporters will feel hard done by,

“They loved him. It is a shame to see him going that way. He is a good player when he is fit, but I just could not put a price on him now.

“His contract is up at the end of the season and they are not going to get anything off him.”

TIF Thoughts on McAvennie’s comments…

We believe that Morelos would be a huge loss for Rangers as he’s been deadly in front of goal for them.

Every full season that the forward has played in, he’s netted more than 10 goals in the Scottish Premiership. His best season came in the 2018/19 campaign where he bagged 18 goals for the Gers.

In the league this season. Morelos has four goals and an assist to his name, with one of those coming in their recent match against Hibernian.

Beale worked with the 26-year-old when he was assistant manager to Steven Gerrard and will hope that his relationship with the player lead to Morelos signing a new deal at the club.

Having a player who’s scored 116 times in all competitions potentially leave for free in the summer will be incredibly hard to replace, so we can understand any disappointment from the supporters.
