Kenny McLean has said he would love to play for Rangers and his family would be “over the moon”.

The 30-year-old was previously reported by the Scottish Express Sport to be a pre-contract target at Ibrox as his contract at Norwich City ran out last summer.

However, a move never came to fruition and McLean extended his stay in Norfolk, where he’s been since 2018 after leaving Aberdeen to head south of the border, but a move back home and in particular to Rangers is something he wants to do eventually.

McLean is a boyhood Rangers fan after growing up in a family of Light Blues and previously played for the Gers at youth level.  He recently admitted on the Talk Norwich City podcast that he’d love a return to play for the first team.

“I think long-term, it will be back in Glasgow.

“I get asked that so much, honestly.

“There’s always talk. But there’s never been anything in front of me saying ‘there you go.’

“In the past, there has been more than just paper talk. It’s never materialised into anything.”

He added: “Would I love it one day? Of course.

“If you’re brought up and that’s who you support, then of course I would.

“My family would be over the moon.”

TIF Thoughts on McLean’s comments…

The chance to play at your boyhood club is something that everyone wants to experience, and McLean, who was hailed as ‘underrated’ by Dean Smith, could yet be a welcome addition to Ibrox if interest was to spark up again.

He’s yet again been integral to Norwich in the English Championship with him starting 18 of 19 games he’s been available for this term, appearing 159 times for the Canaries during his time there.

The time may come soon for him to look for a new challenge and the admission is seemingly a come-and-get-me plea to his boyhood club, and with Steven Davis and Scott Arfield both heading to the twilight of their careers, perhaps Michael Beale will take the chance to add to his midfield in January or the summer.
