Journalist Jonny McFarlane thinks Ben Davies and Connor Goldson will start for Rangers tonight.

McFarlane has claimed that both centre-backs may start against Aberdeen, meaning a completely different defensive pairing is in the offing for the Gers’ clash at Pittodrie.

Davies was a late substitute in the 3-2 win over Hibernian as he came on to guide Rangers across the finishing line in their first game under Michael Beale.

Meanwhile, the exciting news for the Gers is that Goldson may finally return after not playing since picking up a hamstring injury in the Champions League defeat to Liverpool back in October.

McFarlane reacted to Beale’s press conference comments on the latest episode of The Rangers Review, claiming that he believes the pair will both return to the starting lineup tonight.

He said: “It sounded to me like they were both going to play when Michael Beale was talking about it in the presser – talking about whether or not they’ll play the whole 90 minutes or not.

“I think they’ll both start. Goldson will be massive, absolutely massive.”

TIF Thoughts on McFarlane’s comments…

A return to the lineup for either defender would’ve been great news for Rangers, but with both potentially available to start at Pittodrie, it will be a huge boost to the Light Blues’ chances of winning back-to-back league games for the first time since 16th October.

Goldson’s return will be particularly massive, with the Rangers stalwart featuring in every minute of action he’s been available for this season, while it will also allow for makeshift centre-back John Lundstram to potentially move back into a more familiar centre-midfield role.

The pair’s return will begin to ease the injury concerns at the club which saw Adam Devine make his SPFL debut at left-back against Hibs.

Rangers will need a strong defence ahead of their trip to the third-highest scorers in the division at a ground that’s been hard work down the years for them to leave with a positive result.
