TalkSPORT’s Alan Brazil has admitted he wanted Celtic to sign Dan Burn before he made his January move earlier this year.

Burn has come through to the top of Premier League football the hard way having played in all of England’s top four divisions and now finds himself part of the Premier League’s best defence and sitting inside the top four.

However, it could have been very different had Brazil gotten his wish with the former Scotland international admitting he wanted the Bhoys to sign the giant defender before realising he was a Geordie, so moving to Newcastle United made sense.

Brazil made the bold comment on Burn after Neil Warnock spoke highly of Burn, something he’s done a lot in the build-up to the World Cup squads being announced and he said:

Do you wish Celtic had signed Dan Burn?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

(0:30) “By the way, I was hoping he was going to go to Celtic Dan Burn, but I didn’t realise he was a Geordie lad.”

TIF Thoughts on Burn…

Despite Celtic having won way more pieces of silverware, having a great history and being able to offer Champions League football, it would have been a no-brainer for Burn to have picked Newcastle over them given they are his boyhood club.

This English Premier League winner almost moved to Celtic.

While there were never any links suggesting Burn would be moving north of the border and joining Celtic, the fact Brazil mentioned him as a potential signing shows how good he’s been performing in the Premier League.

Burn has indeed been impressing this season at Newcastle, showing his versatility as a makeshift left-back but is still yet to make a single error that’s led to a shot on goal and is second for the number of clearances made by any Newcastle player (FBRef), so he could well have been a decent option for Ange Postecoglou.
