Journalist Dean Jones is now expecting Celtic to miss out on Senegal striker Bamba Dieng.

The 22-year-old has been in the spotlight after netting in the west Africans’ World Cup victory over the hosts Qatar.

French outlet Homme Du Match claimed in the summer that the Hoops were interested in the frontman following a fallout with his manager Igor Tudor at Marseille.

He was set for a move to Leeds United before it collapsed at the last minute with Nice stepping in only for him to fail his medical at the Ligue 1 club.

However, having made just one start this season he could be on the move in January but Jones seems to have ruled the Scottish champions out of the race.

Speaking to This Is Futbol he said: “I can’t see him ending up at Celtic now because I think the interest from the Premier League is about to ramp up.

“I think that there’ll be quite a lot of clubs now looking at him. He knew this was a big platform for him.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Do Celtic need another striker?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Considering his lack of exposure at club level this season, it is clear to see why Dieng would see the World Cup as a great opportunity to put himself in the shop window.

Despite averaging a goal contribution every 142.5 minutes last season with eight goals and three assists in 17 starts last season, the 16-cap ace has found himself on the fringes at the Stade Velodrome during this campaign.

He has come off the bench in all three of Senegal’s fixtures so far and with a last-16 tie against England at the weekend he may get a brief chance to put himself on the radar of some of those clubs down south which could see Celtic priced out of a move.

Big blow! A guy that I have never heard Celtic being linked with. Best news for Celtic. Ryan Kent is a priority for Rangers. 3 goals a season hitman and one good game in ten man may resign as no other club is interested. Excellent, shaking in our shoes. Kemar Roofe as well. The fight back begins. All they need is another pandemic to get rid of the pressure and they might be in with a shout. Empty stadium champs. Does it count if no one was there to see it? There is no way they would not have bottled it if there was people in the stadiums
