The Celtic Way writer Sean Martin has been left extremely excited by speculation linking Celtic with a move for Mohamed Magdy.

He was speaking amid an update from Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph, who relayed journalist Mark Hendry’s claims on Twitter at the weekend.

They state that the Hoops have acted on their initial interest and have held discussions with representatives of the Egyptian attacking midfielder.

Commonly known as Afsha, the Al-Ahly ace is thought to be assessing his options after a stellar campaign last season that saw him finish as both top scorer and chief creator for the Egyptian outfit.

Speaking on The Celtic Way YouTube channel, Martin said: “I’m actually really excited about that one. I like the look of him, really like the look of him.

“He would be coming from Al-Ahly, they’re the world’s most successful club, so in terms of an audition to [deal with] the pressure that comes with coming to Celtic, I mean it’s fair enough.

“He’s a two-time AFC Champions League winner, got player of the match in both finals.

“I like the look of this guy.”

Indeed, as Martin pointed out, Magdy won back-to-back African Champions League trophies with the capital-based outfit between 2019 and 2021.

The 26-year-old has risen through the ranks in his home country and is now in his fifth season at one of the league’s leading clubs in Cairo.

His side sit top of the league at the early stages, with Afsha weighing in with two assists in the first four games.

The 20-cap ace would certainly be another creative threat for Ange Postecoglou should a move transpire and it could prove to be another shrewd acquisition by the club if it transpires.
