Celtic right-back Josip Juranovic will be a player to keep an eye on in the January transfer window as he has a big chance of leaving Paradise.

This has been suggested by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking on the latest edition of his Here We Go podcast.

Over the last week, the Bhoys confirmed the signing of Canadian star Alistair Johnston, who also plays at the right-back position.

Which season did Roy Keane join the Hoops?

But this comes amid reports of interest garnering in the Croatian defender, who is currently playing for his country at the World Cup.

Having seen previous interest arrive from the English Premier League and Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, Romano has now suggested this January will offer him the opportunity to leave.

He said: “Keep an eye on this right-back playing for Croatia national team at the World Cup. He’s a very good player. Already in the summer, there was some interest from English clubs.

“Premier League clubs are still keeping an eye on him, because with Johnston, Celtic have already signed the potential replacement for Juranovic, and so there is a chance for him to leave – if it’s not in January – in the summer.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

It does feel as if the 27-year-old’s time at Parkhead is coming to its conclusion, with the interest in him not disappearing amid the recent arrival of another right-back.

Would Juranovic be a big loss?

No

However, we do not necessarily think this is a potential departure Celtic fans should be fearing, with the likes of Anthony Ralston proving a capable alternative.

Ralston has split the game time in the Scottish Premiership with the Croatian, with the 24-year-old racking up eight appearances in the top flight.

Having played a similar amount of game time in the top flight, the only real separating factor between the pair is that Juranovic has provided Ange Postecoglou with a goal (via Fbref).

So if Celtic can bring in a decent fee for the defender, they may be able to upgrade other areas of their squad having already brought in Johnston.
