Celtic fans are fearing that Alistair Johnston’s arrival will see Josip Juranovic move on, according to Pete O’Rourke.

This weekend, Celtic agreed a deal to bring Montreal right-back Johnston to Parkhead after his World Cup journey with Canada finished earlier this week.

It’s feared that the 24-year-old’s arrival will spell the end for Juranovic’s stay in Glasgow, with the Croatian stalling over a new contract, despite it running for another three seasons, while Giorgos Giakoumakis is also thought to be close to a possible exit.

Juranovic has featured 50 times in all competitions in Glasgow after joining from Legia Warszawa in the summer of 2021, with O’Rourke suggesting to This Is Futbol that there may be unease amongst the fans that this may be his swansong.

He said: “Johnston has impressed with Canada at the World Cup as well, so it will definitely increase competition at the right-back spot for Celtic with Juranovic, with probably maybe Celtic fans fearing that maybe Johnston’s arrival could see Juranovic move on.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Juranovic has been forced to fight for his place in the team with Anthony Ralston, with him only playing two of the previous nine league outings, although he did play every minute of the Champions League group stages.

This could be due to his indecision on his future at Parkhead, and it would be understandable if a direct rival and third right-back at the club sparked worries of a potential imminent departure.

Juranovic has played every minute of Croatia’s World Cup journey so far, including a 4-1 win over Johnston’s Canada, so the Bhoys faithful may be forced to witness his international performances with no guarantee he’ll appear again for Celtic.
