Journalist Tony Haggerty has admitted that he feels Giorgos Giakoumakis won’t be ‘easy to replace’ at Celtic.

He was speaking following reports from the Daily Record suggesting that the centre-forward could be on his way out of Parkhead in the January window.

It is thought that talks between the 27-year-old and the club over an improved deal have broken down and that Giakoumakis is now set for a ‘shock’ departure in January.

He is under contract until 2026 but the source claims that the Greek international lowered his demands when he first signed last summer with the guarantee that he would receive a pay hike should he have a successful campaign.

The £12k-per week brute of course finished the season as the side’s leading scorer in the Scottish Premiership with 13 goals as the Bhoys enjoyed a league and cup double and Haggerty has voiced his concern amid a potential exit.

Speaking on The Celtic Way he said: (13:55) “I don’t think he’s easy to replace. Aidan [co-presenter], do you think he’s easily replaceable? I’m kind of sceptical on that.

“I just hope that they can hammer out a solution that’s best for all parties because you just don’t want this lingering on any longer than it needs to.”

Do you think Celtic should go all out for Giakoumakis?

Despite being the second choice at leading the line behind Kyogo Furuhashi, Giakoumakis is still a vital part of Ange Postecoglou’s team.

He has only made 22 starts in all competitions since arriving at Parkhead but he is averaging a goal every 95 minutes highlighting the efficiency he brings to the side.

Journalist Josh Bunting has previously called for Ange to start the ‘main man’ arguing that he’s the ‘best finisher’ at the club so it is clear to see why the powerhouse would want the best contract possible.

However, it will be interesting to see how this plays out as the burly striker would certainly be a huge loss to the Scottish champions.
