Frank McAvennie has backed Moritz Jenz to sign a permanent contract at Celtic following his loan spell.
Jenz joined Celtic on a season-long loan deal from Lorient and has so far made 19 appearances in all competitions for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
The deal includes an option-to-buy clause, which McAvennie hopes will be activated to see the 23-year-old sign a permanent deal in Glasgow.
Jenz endeared himself to Celtic fans with two goals in his first two games at the club, as he headed home the winner against Ross County on his debut.
His performances have earned him the nickname ‘Mercedes’, while he previously told the Daily Record how his time so far has been “unbelievable”, with the German taking to the city as much as Hoops fans have to him.
McAvennie was asked by Football Insider whether he thought the German would be offered a permanent deal at Parkhead.
He said: “I would think so.
“I think he has done well. He is a no-nonsense defender. He just does what he says on the tin. He gets the ball and can give it to somebody that can play or gets it up the pitch.”
“He does not mess about and he is only going to get better.”
“I would think Ange has got to strengthen the squad. I would give him a contract.”

Jenz has been an important player this season for the Postecoglou, who has regularly called upon him from the bench when he isn’t selected to start.
Despite only 10 league starts from a possible 16 SPFL matches, his starts have been prioritised for Europe, with him playing every minute of Celtic’s Champions League campaign.
With Carl Starfelt returning from injury in the run-up to the World Cup, the competition will surely be between the Swede and Jenz to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers in defence.
But with no other options other than Stephen Welsh, who’s played only four times all season, we think Jenz would prove a smart signing, with Celtic an injury or suspension away from being left light at centre-back.
