Wolverhampton Wanderers prospect Hugo Bueno admits that he and his teammates ‘were all watching’ Hwang Hee-Chan in action at the World Cup.

The forward has 49 caps for South Korea and the goal he scored against Portugal in the group stage was one of the biggest goals of his career.

In added time, the 26-year-old made it 2-1 to send the Asian side through from Group H in second place. However, they were knocked in the round of 16, where they were thumped 4-1 by Brazil.

Bueno was raving about his Wolves teammate and thought that he was ‘brilliant’ throughout the duration of the World Cup.

Speaking to the club’s website, he stated: “Of course, I want my Wolves teammates to do well and it’s been good to see them. Last night we were all watching South Korea against Brazil as a group and were supporting Channy [Hwang].

“He did a brilliant tournament, to be honest, and he played really well against Brazil, but he was just unlucky that he was playing against them as there is not much you can do against these teams.”

TIF Thoughts on Bueno’s comments…

We believe that Hwang can hold his head high following the tournament. His goal against Portugal will go down in South Korean footballing history.

Furthermore, it could give him a real confidence boost heading into the second half of the season. He’s not scored for Wolves this season and only scored five times in the league last season.

The club appointed Julen Lopetegui at the start of November, after the former boss, Bruno Lage was sacked. With a new manager, some fresh ideas and a confidence boost from the World Cup, the forward has the opportunity to turn his career at Molineux around.

Lopetegui has managed the likes of Real Madrid and Sevilla, making his CV more than impressive. One problem he’ll need to address is getting goals.

Wolves have only scored eight Premier League goals this season, the lowest tally of any side. Before January, the manager will have to make a big decision on whether he trusts his current batch of forwards or looks to bring in some new recruits.
