Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Gerson would bring something that West Ham have been ‘lacking’ this season.
The Hammers have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old who currently plies his trade with Marseille in Ligue 1.
A report from GOAL Brazil suggested that the Irons as well as Spanish side Sevilla have been offered the chance to sign the attacking midfielder in the January transfer window.
It claims that a move to his native Brazil with Flamengo broke down and it could open the door for the east London club.
Speaking to This Is Futbol he said:
“Brazilian midfielder Gerson who seems like he could be on his way out of Marseille in the January transfer window as well. We all know West Ham have had an indifferent season so far this season, struggling at the wrong end of the table. But yeah, Gerson is a player with good pedigree, he’s a goalscoring midfielder as well.
“He’s an attacking midfielder, which is something maybe West Ham have been lacking so far this season.”
TIF Thoughts on Gerson and West Ham…
Do you expect West Ham to sign anyone one this winter?
Yes
No
The £66k-per-week ace hasn’t exactly put himself in the shop window having only scored two goals so far this season.
However, not always starting has perhaps affected the Brazilian’s rhythm but nonetheless, it isn’t exactly the kind of return that would fill Irons supporters with a lot of confidence.
He is yet to register an assist and his level of assists per 90 minutes is among the bottom 7% of players in his position across Europe over the past 365 days (Fbref).
For that reason, we believe that Rob Newman would be as well looking at alternative targets to kickstart the club’s campaign.
