Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has expressed his concern for West Ham United amid speculation surrounding the future of another couple of youngsters.

The Sky Sports pundit was speaking following the news that academy graduates Harrison Ashby and Conor Coventry could both leave the club in January.

Both Ashby and Coventry are out of contract at the end of the season, and despite a handful of senior appearances each, David Moyes could lose two more burgeoning talents.

It comes after Sonny Perkins joined Leeds United in the summer having turned down a professional contract with the Irons, and Robinson has said this potential trend is starting to become a worry.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “That is a major concern.

“I do not know a lot about West Ham’s youth team. You cannot lose your top young players to Premier League rivals, though. There is an issue if that starts to become a pattern.

“The grass must be greener elsewhere. The players must think that there [are] more opportunities elsewhere.

“It could become a major issue for West Ham. You have to remember that they lost Sonny Perkins last year.”

During the closing stages of the summer transfer window, the east London outfit staved off interest from Newcastle United in Ashby and triggered a one-year extension in his contract until the end of the campaign.

Journalist Alan Nixon then claimed that Leeds would look to make a move for the 21-year-old, and if he is unwilling to commit to a new deal, we feel the officials at the London Stadium should accept a proposal this January.

It would avoid the club having to settle for compensation, and even though neither outcome is ideal, it would certainly be the easiest to take rather than seeing two of their latest prospects walk away for nothing.
