Journalist Jonty Colman has praised West Ham United midfielder Pablo Fornals after he impressed with a ‘livewire’ display in a recent friendly.

As the Hammers ramp up their preparations for Premier League football to return, David Moyes’ men took on Cambridge United. The east London outfit came out on top in a 4-2 win, with Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma and Pierre Ekwah scoring, as well as an own goal helping add to the tally.

No doubt, the match would have been great for a number of West Ham players as they look to build up fitness amid the break for the World Cup – and it seems as though it was a great outing for Fornals.

Indeed, as stated in the player ratings for football.london, he really seemed to catch the eye with an impressive 7/10 performance for the claret and blue.

Colman wrote: “Before the World Cup break, Pablo Fornals had scored three goals in his last two starts, hoping to cash in on that against League One opposition. A real livewire on the left, dropping deep to play long quarterback-like passes, as well as getting down his wing and attacking well.”

TIF Thoughts on Pablo Fornals and West Ham United…

Fornals lasted 61 minutes before being subbed as Moyes looked to heavily rotate his squad within the game, but it seems he only needed about an hour to impress. Indeed, in the game, he even managed to hit the post when trying to score directly from a corner.

With 23 appearances for the Hammers across all competitions so far this season, the Spaniard certainly is a key part of his manager’s plans. His best display of the season perhaps came just before the World Cup break when he netted twice in the Europa Conference League against FCSB in November.

It will certainly be encouraging for West Ham fans to see that the midfielder has looked sharp in this most recent friendly despite so much time off over the past month or so.

No doubt, the player will be keen on making a big impact in the second half of the season.
