Tottenham Hotspur have the chance to sign Weston McKennie amid Juventus’ financial issues, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Spurs have been alerted to the ongoing financial situation at Juventus, which has seen president Andrea Agnelli and their entire board of directors resign.

This comes after allegations of false accounting and a subsequent UEFA investigation being launched against the Italian club.

The circumstances mean potential repercussions for the Old Lady’s transfer plans in the upcoming January window, with O’Rourke telling This is Futbol that Spurs may be able to pounce for the 24-year-old.

He said: “Considering everything that’s going on at Juventus as well at the minute with their financial problems, that might open the door for a potential move to become more of a reality for Tottenham and Weston McKennie.”

TIF Thoughts on McKennie to Tottenham…

Spurs do have a number of options at central midfield, but with Antonio Conte deploying three central midfielders rather than the two favoured earlier in the season, the chance to improve that area should be jumped at.

Rodrigo Bentancur has proved vital in an otherwise uninspiring Lilywhites midfield alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who’s an important player in the Italian’s system – both of them have played 21 times this season.

New summer signing Yves Bissouma has yet to truly find his feet in north London, only averaging a rating of 6.27 this season according to WhoScored – the fifth-worst in the Tottenham squad and the obvious candidate to be replaced in the side at present.

The American could do just that, as he ranks in the top 6% for touches in the attacking penalty area and the top 7% for progressive passes received among players in his position over the past year (as per FBref).

We think he’d therefore be an exciting addition for Conte, with his attacking mindset in the middle of the park something that will combine well with Bentancur, while he certainly showed what he is capable of with the United States at the World Cup.
