Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a potential blow as Sofyan Amrabat’s agent has suggested a move in the summer window would make more sense for the midfielder than a January switch.
This is according to TalkSport transfer guru Alex Crook, who has been speaking about his recent conversation with Amrabat’s representative during his time out in Qatar.
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the reported transfer interest from north London in the Fiorentina midfielder, with the interest going as far back as last January.
And ahead of the upcoming window, it is believed Spurs still hold an interest in the Moroccan, but have now been joined by the likes of Liverpool.
After what was a mightily impressive showing in Qatar from Amrabat, Crook has said the 26-year-old’s agent still believes a move in the summer would be more suitable for his client.
He said: “Well, Sofyan Amrabat’s agent was actually staying in the same hotel as us over in Doha. I did have a conversation with him about his future.
“Again, lots of Premier League interest. I think many people put him in their Team of the Tournament. He felt like the summer was probably a better time for him to move from Fiorentina than now.”

It certainly was a standout tournament in the World Cup for Amrabat, who recovered the ball 51 times throughout Morocco’s run deep into the competition.

Spurs do currently have options in central midfield with the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma, but we can’t imagine that Antonio Conte would turn down the opportunity to land a player who he admires.
And we do not fully agree with the claim from Amrabat’s agent, as a lot could still happen in the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign. Why not seek a move when Amrabat’s stock is as high as it ever will have been after a fantastic World Cup?
The Moroccan has around 18 months remaining on his current deal, and if he is not extending his stay at Fiorentina, then perhaps they would be wise to cash in soon with interest believed to be so high in their 26-year-old star.
