Journalist, Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport that Tottenham Hotspur-linked man, Josko Gvardiol ‘will discuss all options’ with his agency soon.

The defender was called up to Croatia’s World Cup squad, which is very impressive when you consider he’s 20-years-old.

According to Jones, fellow Premier League side Chelsea are interested in the defender. Other sides in Europe looking at the Croatian are Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

Gvardiol is currently with Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig, joining in the summer of 2021 from Dinamo Zabgreb. He’s made 42 Bundesliga appearances across the last two seasons.

Jones stated, ‘Josko Gvardiol is the headline name in this team with Chelsea leading the pursuit of the 20-year-old RB Leipzig centre-back but there has been interest from Tottenham, Juventus and PSG. He will discuss all options with his agency soon.’

TIF’s view on Jones’ comments…

We believe that Gvardiol, who is supposedly worth €100m (£86m), would be a top signing Spurs and would be a future star in the backline.

At 20-years-old, the defender has had an impressive campaign with RB Leipzig. According to Sofascore he’s completed 89% of his dribbles and has an 89% pass accuracy (96% of those being successful in his own half).

Furthermore, Gvardiol has one of the best dribbling stats of any defender across Europe’s top five leagues, the Champions League and Europa League in the last year, he’s in the top 1% for dribbles completed (FBref).

A pairing of Spurs’ Cristian Romero and Gvardiol could be a long-term partnership for years to come. With the Croatian’s ability on the ball and the Argentine’s ability to effectively win the ball from opponents, it could be the perfect duo. Romero’s FBref stats show that he’s in the top 1% for tackles made by defenders.

However, it’s clear that Gvardiol will be wanted by a number of top clubs. Spurs may well have to be spending big money to land the player.
