Alfie Whiteman is expected to leave Tottenham Hotspur with his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper returned to training this week with other members of the squad who didn’t feature in the World Cup or internationally.

He’s back at Hotspur Way for the first time since April after spending the season out on loan at Swedish Allsvenskan side Degerfors as they avoided the relegation play-off on goal difference.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest talk Tottenham podcast,=, Alasdair Gold gave an update on the Spurs keeper’s future:

(6:00) “I’m not entirely sure what his future holds, I think his contract is up the end of this season. I do wonder what will happen with him and whether the decision will be made to embark on his career fully as obviously he’s proven he can go elsewhere and be a first-team goalkeeper.

“You’ve obviously got Brandon Austin, Fraser Forster, Hugo Lloris as well for another season after this so you’d imagine he’s probably the odd man out there.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

Whiteman is certainly coming towards one of the biggest decisions of his career to date, the goalkeeper has been at Spurs since 2008 but at 24-years-old his days in north London seem to be numbered.

The one-time England U19 shot-stopper returned from his second spell at Degerfors IF where he played 21 times and established himself as the number one for the majority of the campaign with his next step set to coincide with continued first-team action.

He made his Lilywhites debut back in the 2020/21 season as a substitute for Joe Hart in a 4-0 Europa League group game win against Ludogorets, which looks set to be his only appearance for the club.

It remains to be seen whether he stays under Antonio Conte as a backup until the summer or whether a January move is on the table.
