Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie believes Eddie Howe would be open to bringing Leandro Trossard to Newcastle United.

According to The Chronicle, the Magpies monitored the 28-year-old while on international duty for Belgium at the World Cup.

Out of contract at the end of the season, the Brighton & Hove Albion forward may cost around £30m (Northern Echo) and a move to the northeast could be possible.

However, Newcastle wouldn’t be the only ones perhaps offering their services when the market reopens given that Chelsea have also expressed an interest.

But Downie feels that Howe would love to have the 28-year-old gem at St. James’ Park which may intensify their pursuit.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT he said: “I think Trossard would be a really good fit. I can see why he’s being mentioned, and I could see that being the sort of player that Eddie Howe would welcome to the club.

“He’s young, he’s already an international player, he’s played in the Premier League before and he ticks a lot of boxes.”

Labelled a ‘magician’ by The Argus’ Brian Owen the £42.5k-per-week ace would prove a terrific option going forward for Howe.

Predominantly a left-sided player, the 24-cap Belgian star would be more than capable of filling the void that often tends to be left by the injury-hampered Allan Saint-Maximin down that side.

The Toon’s no.10 has missed eight games already this season but considering Trossard has already produced seven goals and three assists in 14 Premier League appearances his absence would likely not be felt should PIF decide to bring in the ‘unreal’ livewire – as dubbed by Rio Ferdinand.

And with Newcastle believed to have an interest in James Maddison, Trossard could prove a much cheaper alternative for the January window whilst still providing a big influence.
