Journalist Ross Gregory feels Leandro Trossard would be well-suited to Newcastle United given his attributes amid links between the Toon and the Belgian.
Gregory was speaking in reference to a report published by The Chronicle that claims the Magpies are keeping an eye on the 27-year-old at the World Cup.
The source outlines how sporting director Dan Ashworth made the forward one of his first signings while in a similar role at Brighton & Hove Albion.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season, the Seagulls are in a vulnerable position regarding their 5ft 8in livewire, and he has fuelled speculation in the past.
However, Chelsea have also been credited with an interest, with former Brighton boss Graham Potter now in west London, which could scupper the Magpies’ plans.
Nevertheless, when asked if Trossard could fit in on Tyneside, Gregory told NUFC Matters: “Absolutely 100%, I think he would. I think he’s a good, talented player. He’s added a lot of end-product to his game over the last 6-8 months as well. His ability in the final third’s really good.
“I think he fits in with the style of player that Newcastle are looking for – he’s quick, he’s dynamic, he’s good on the ball, he’s hard-working. He’s in the right kind of age bracket as well, and he’s obviously well-known to Dan Ashworth.
“With his contract situation, I think it’s one of those that looks a good potential fit for Newcastle, but there will be Chelsea, yes, but I think there’ll be plenty of competition for Trossard’s services over the next few months.”
