Transfer insider Dean Jones has suggested that Newcastle United could revert their attention to Borna Sosa this summer following his World Cup displays.

The Toon have previously been linked with a move for the Croatia left-back with BILD reporting that Newcastle could look to bring in the Stuttgart man this winter.

Dubbed a ‘crossing machine’ by journalist Ronan Murphy he could offer a real attacking threat from deep for Eddie Howe’s side.

Dan Burn has been preferred in that position despite the permanent arrival of Matt Targett in the summer

However, Jones has claimed that any potential move may only materialise at the end of the season.

Speaking to This Is Futbol when asked is Sosa someone they should be looking at following his performances out in Qatar, Jones said:

“Yeah, it will certainly be convincing them that their scouting radar is on the right track and they knew his qualities though long before the World Cup began.

“He’s an option they might turn back to but I don’t think it’ll be until the summer.”

The 24-year-old has produced eight assists in 13 appearances at club level this season and has offered glimpses of what he can do at both ends of the pitch at the ongoing World Cup.

In his opening two group games for the Croats, Sosa has made the joint-most tackles per game among his teammates (3.5), third for clearances (2.5), and joint-second for crosses (1) according to WhoScored.

He has also created one big chance and having been directly involved in 34 goals in 96 appearances during his time in the Bundesliga he could most certainly be a terrific addition at St. James’ Park should PIF wish to pursue him.
