Journalist Craig Hope has said that although Newcastle United were ‘definitely’ looking at signing Christian Pulisic in the summer, he isn’t sure whether that interest remains.
In recent weeks, the American forward has been linked with a move to Tyneside as he enters the final 18 months of his current deal.
Pulisic was brought to Chelsea for £58m from Borussia Dortmund in 2019, but his contract is expiring at the end of next season, which could open the door for Newcastle.
He has been in and out of the side ever since Graham Potter took charge at Stamford Bridge, but amid speculation surrounding his future, Hope has admitted he is unsure if the Magpies are still keen on him.
Speaking on the True Faith podcast, he said: “There’s definitely interest in Pulisic from the summer, whether that’s still there now or not, I don’t know for certain. But certainly in the summer – absolutely, he was one they wanted to do.”
TIF Thoughts on Pulisic and Newcastle…
Would you like Newcastle to sign Pulisic?Yes!No! |
Despite Hope’s comments, there has been some suggestion from the tabloids that the north-east club have shown a renewed interest in the 56-cap star.great
Ex-Chelsea man Pat Nevin tipped the winger to become ‘world-class’, and although he has struggled with injury in west London, Pulisic has proved a real threat in his favoured position on the left, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in 47 appearances there.
Moreover, having been described as looking like a ‘man possessed’ by Herculez Gomez for his endeavour in national team colours, he could be of real value to Eddie Howe on both sides of the ball and we feel this is one PIF should still be looking at.
